Creative block and tools to combat it

If you work in creative work, you've probably felt exhausted, unmotivated, or out of ideas at some point. These could be symptoms of creative block , which is understood as the temporary loss of the ability to continue generating content.

Although it can be desperate and often seem like a hopeless path, the good news is that blockage can be overcome by renewing your sources of inspiration. So, we've decided to share some tips on tools that can help you rediscover your creative potential .

TED Talks

To give you an idea of the tool's power, I've seen many people who dislike motivational speeches surrender to the inspiring teachings of TED Talks. Within a huge range of topics from a wide variety of fields, some talks specifically address creativity .

To shake up your way of seeing things, watch:

Netflix

To the delight of binge-watchers (those who enjoy binge-watching series), there are many documentaries and series on Netflix that can also help you rekindle your motivation to create . Some titles include "How the Brain Creates," "Abstract," "Chef's Table," "Hilda," and "The OA."

I particularly recommend a title that isn't on Netflix but is close to my heart: "Marina Abramovic - The Artist Is Present".

Games

Often, an aesthetic or emotional stimulus can also inspire you and serve as a reference for creating something new. Some games like "Monument Valley" (mobile), "Scribblenauts" (mobile, PC, and console), "Ori and the Blind Forest" (PC and console), "Unravel" (PC and console), and "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" (console) can inspire anyone who lets themselves be drawn into the story.

Pinterest and Behance

Both platforms serve as a powerful tool for researching references - the difference is that on Behance you can find posts separated by author or project with an emphasis on the professional field, especially when it comes to design, photography, or advertising.

Daisie

Daisie is an initiative by Maisie Williams, famous for playing Arya Stark in Game of Thrones, and serves as a platform to connect young artists and create business opportunities for them. Although the app hasn't yet taken off in Brazil, it's already available on the App Store and is a channel worth keeping an eye on.

Medium

For those who enjoy getting lost in texts, Medium is the place to be. Here, you can both write and discover texts from other users who also needed a safe place to share great stories and ideas.

The more the merrier!

In this video, Fe talked more about some of these tools and even gave other TED Talk suggestions to add to the list. If you also remember something cool that helps you combat those dreaded blocks , leave it in the comments and let's help each other reclaim the creative potential that exists within us all.
